FIFA bans ex Ghana FA president

Kwesi Nyantakiyi, Ghanaian FA president and one of the most powerful figures in African football has been banned for life by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for bribery and corruption.

Nyantakiyi was reported to have taken $65,000 from an undercover reporter,which prompted an investigation by the world’s governing body(FIFA).

He stepped down as Ghana FA president in June after film of him allegedly accepting a “cash gift” was made public.

FIFA fined Nyantakyi 500,000 Swiss francs (£390,000).

Nyantakyi was initially suspended on June 8 for 90 days by the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee. The ban was later extended for an additional 45 days on September 6.
