A New Jersey Democrats Senator, Cory Booker has announced his ambition to become the next President of the United States.
Booker, a one-time Mayor of Newark is known for his charisma, ambition and deep admiration for former POTUS, Jimmy Carter.
He has been dubbed a brilliant legislator by locals, despite his thin popularity. He is however seen as a bright spot in the list of Senators who have declared their ambition to be in the White House in 2020.
Booker is unmarried and is a vegan. He has chosen the first day of Black History for his announcement, and those may be symbolic of his heritage and values.
Booker chose the first day of Black History Month to launch his campaign, timing that nods to Booker’s own heritage and suggests he will put it at the center of his pitch to voters.
“The history of our nation is defined by collective action; by interwoven destinies of slaves and abolitionists; of those born here and those who chose America as home; of those who took up arms to defend our country, and those who linked arms to challenge and change it,” Booker says in a video released on Friday morning, which features him walking through his Newark neighborhood.
He says he is the only Senator who goes back to his old neighbour hood without the allure of public governance.
He has been compared to Obama by several people but has been dubbed different. While the first black POTUS is calm and very serious in approach, Booker is considered and extrovert who makes use of very comical suggestions to drive home his point.
His anti-corruption drive has ensured he will not accept Special PACs from businessmen of Wall Street and other kinds of PACS.
