The Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, has promised to completely revamp the dilapidated Mount Carmel Hospital, Akpautong, in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area within six months of his assumption of office as Governor.

The hospital, the only General Hospital in Ibesikpo Asutan, former Governor Victor Attah’s home local government area, has been in very poor state for years with inadequate staff, equipment and patronage.

Speaking when the APC campaign team paid homage to the Paramount Ruler of Ibesikpo Asutan, Edidem Clement Ekpenyong, at his palace in Akpautong on Monday, Ekere decried the condition of the hospital and vowed to turn things around.

He also promised to construct a bridge to link the two sections of Asutan Ekpe Clan, Attah’s clan, which have been cut off from each other.

The APC standard bearer informed the monarch that Ibesikpo Asutan was among the seven local government areas he has designated as Special Development Areas in his manifesto, promising to correct the huge infrastructural deficit in the area as Governor from May 29, 2019.

Ekere described the Paramount Ruler as an erudite, educated, exposed and committed monarch who is very interested in development and loves his people.

On his part, Ekpenyong blessed Ekere and prayed for his success at the polls, describing him as “the Governor-to-be.”

Addressing the campaign rally at Mbierebe Akpawat, the home village of the legendary Ibibio leader, Late Chief Effiong Okon Eyo, Ekere promised to end the deprivation of the people of Ibesikpo Asutan, which is largely located within Uyo Capital City, when he becomes Governor.

He enumerated the projects he executed in Ibesikpo Asutan as Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to include the almost completed construction of Market Road and environs in Nung Oku, and the ongoing construction of Idak Editan Road and Ikot Akpabin – Ikot Akpasia Road.

Ekere echoed last week’s advice by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to Akwa Ibom people not to play politics of opposition to the Federal Government, pointing to the quick succession of the visits of Present Muhammadu Buhari, his wife, Aisha, and the Vice President to Akwa Ibom State within a month as a sign of the Federal Government’s interest in the state.

He condemned the non-performance of the Udom Emmanuel Administration and the level of poverty and unemployment in the state.

“We cannot afford another four years of a failed administration. That is why you have to use your PVCs,” he said.
